This regency was the home of great warriors that still celebrate the Perang Dawa (war of the gods) every other year at full moon of the fourth month to honor their ancient heroes.

One of the most attractive features of the east coast is its relaxed atmosphere and pristine water that has abundant marine life attracting divers from all around the world. Many professional diving centers following international safety standards offer a great chance for skilled divers to discover the breathtaking underwater scenery. Also, for those with no experience have the opportunity to get their PADI certificate within just a few days.

Snorkeling is another way to discover the sea life that is accessible from various locations throughout the coast. It can be combined with a sightseeing trip on a traditional fishing boat where you can enjoy unique views of the littoral. There is a wide assortment of beaches from calm waters ideal for swimming to great waves perfect for skilled surfers. One of the best beaches in Bali, Pantai Perasi, is located in this region, just a few minutes from Candidasa.

This coast hosts seafront resorts and private villas suitable for retreat groups of all sizes. Any training, seminar, retreat or wellness trip will find these locations optimal for relaxation and connection with the sea energy. Amed, a traditional fishing village, also has stunning dive spots.

Tenganan, a Bali Aga Village that means original Balinese, is a beautiful example of how the traditional villages were in the past. Nowadays, they still maintain their fascinating rituals as well as dedicate most of their economy in the production of exceptional handicrafts.

Most recent in history is the royal family architectural remains from the 19th century. The most popular site is the Ujung Water Palace that was built by the late king of Karangasem, and the Tirta Gangga Water Palace. You can swim in these royal public pools fed by natural springs. One of the best-preserved temples, Pura Besakih, is the most visited temple complex, offering great views of the highest mountain in Bali, Mount Agung. A 6-hour climb will take you to the peak to view the most incredible sunrise. For those looking for a shorter climb, an early ride to Mount Batur is beautiful alternative in Kintamani area. The hot springs in front of the lake are the perfect spot to relax your muscles after the hike.

Highly recommended are the different trekking routes on this region with its marvelous views and charming scenes of the Balinese rural life. Rivers, waterfalls and rice paddies are some of the gifts of this nature. A visit to the chocolate and soap factory or even a cooking class can be arranged.
